That's not how it works. Any share of the profits do not go to shareholders in any % unless a company declares dividends and the dividends are generally paltry. The benefits of these investments are generally realized by either having an influence in the direction the invested company takes and/or by exiting the investment when the valuation soars.

So you will not see any money coming to Sony from this investment any time soon.

It's a circle. Whether to declare dividends, or to re-invest in business, and if re-invest, them what to re-invest in - all those decisions are taken at the Shareholders' meeting. Directors cannot unilaterally decide whether to declare dividends or to keep money to themselves. But yes, the strongest say will always go to the majority shareholders - in this case Tencent and Tim Sweeney (If he has a sizeable investment). Sony will be invited to those meetings and get their say, but ultimately TS and Tencent will decide.

But I would say they will keep Sony happy. 2% investment is actually huge in a giant corporation, and Sony will see returns soon enough. Sony definitely are not going to get any strong decision making powers over Epic from this investment though - that's for sure.

What a move sony :majesty:

Now they just need to force them to make PS exclusive.

More like we will see Sony games on Epic store in future.

Plus PC is the only way to enjoy PS games at 60 fps :P

Xbox’s Phil Spencer Says PS5-Style Next-Gen Exclusives “Counter to What Gaming is About”

Quote

Later in the interview, Spencer goes a step further, saying Sony’s next-gen-exclusive-focused approach is “completely counter to what gaming is about”…

Quote

As a player you are the centre of our strategy. Our device is not the centre of our strategy, our game is not the centre of the strategy. We want to enable you to play the games you want to play, with the friends you want to play with, on any device. […] Gaming is about entertainment and community and diversion and learning new stories and new perspectives, and I find it completely counter to what gaming is about to say that part of that is to lock people away from being able to experience those games. Or to force someone to buy my device on the day that I want them to go buy it, in order to partake in what gaming is about.

wtf is he talking, locking people out from playing the games they want to play.

The only way people are being locked out of playing good games is if they only buy the xbox

That title is pure clickbait.

Did you guys even read the original article? He actually never even mentions the PS5. He was just stating their strategy for Xbox. The original article is titled "Are Xbox Series X developers being held back by Xbox One?" That was him explaining why some of their games are coming to X1, XSX and the PC.

Of course, you may not agree with his justification but that's another thing.

Dude talks a lot and people lap it up. That article has so many hot takes even PC gamers are like 'wtf is he talking about?' If future of gaming is device-less then why are they not putting Halo Infinite on PS5? If they don't want to force people to but next gen then why are they funding The Medium which is exclusive to next-gen? And why does this "all inclusive" and "consumer friendly" strategy have a one year expiry date? Are the xbots in 2022 going to say "yeah it was consumer friendly until last year but now its all about next-gen"

Frankly, “held back” is a meme that gets created by people who are too caught up in device competition. […] The diversity of hardware choice in PC has not held back the highest fidelity PC games on the market. The highest fidelity PC games rival anything that anybody has ever seen in video games. So this idea that developers don't know how to build games, or game engines, or ecosystems, that work across a set of hardware... there's a proof point in PC that shows that's not the case.

There is a reason all Blizzard games and e-Sports titles look potato compared to your generic 2020 AAA game you find :giggle:

There is also a reason that 3 year old GPUs are in the "recommended" specs of games like RDR2 and RE3 Remake.

recommended in PC specs speak nearly always is for some garbage 1080p/30fps garbage console quality preset, not exactly the reason that you bought a gaming PC for, so again your GPU has to exceed whatever is in the "recommended" to play PC Games in the HiGhEsT FiDeLitY

That is their PR talk. Of course he is bullshitting. It is a given why they release their games on multiple platforms. They know their games won't do well as exclusives; which is why they're focussed on Game Pass now.

Which is kinda strange, as their flagship titles are pretty good. Although Gears halo forza have had multiple releases, most of them are actually good. Even ori and cuphead are great.

The only thing MS needs to do is diversify the variety of their exclusives, god knows why they are just focussing on  FPS games as revealed in the last show.

They have everything else in place-: Series X is powerful, design wise I presonally like it more than ps5 and their build quality is definitely more premium compared to PS. Only thing lacking is variety in genre of games.

Their lack of effort this gen will take so many years to fix. Yes, some titles are good (my favs: Hellblade, Ori and Cuphead), however, other titles don't hold a candle to the quality Sony is producing. They'll really need to come up with some amazing games to win some trust back.

Neither was cuphead. It got locked into a exclusive agreement after the initial trailer good positive reactions.

I think they still fully funded its long development. Hellblade was just completely independent till the end.

Or a kick in the nuts for xbox fanboys. :P

That will not be a first, or second, or even a third for that matter. By now, most Xbox owners have swollen nuts the size of an elephant. ?

Here's hoping this time it's genuinely good and not like the current-gen E3s.
