This is a load of bull.

Remake combat is anything but basic. You need to strategize from whole range of commands, the materia you slot actually makes a lot of difference(not just character specific but enemy specific too), the synergies with other characters (and their own range of moves and materia slots) also change the dynamics, and to top it off you're movement along the battlefield also is key (this again varies from character to character, especially useful for Aerith).

16 on the other hand is like 1/10th complexity of Remake. Have Platted both, combat on Remake is miles ahead of 16. This doesn't mean I dislike 16, love it for what it is, but when it comes to combat, basic among the two is not Remake.

I was being sarcastic because people thinking FF16 combat is shallow wouldn't know a thing about action cancels or using Torgal to extend aerial combos. They'd put on the cheat rings and then say its easy

Pretty much. And I didn't even use a single ring in F16 since I consider using them as easy mode.

Over last 2 decades, my most favorite games have been from the “fantasy” genre. Games which involve magic, melee action, swords, dragons, gods, titans etc

As I am nearing the end of FF16, I think it’s just the greatest game of all time by miles. Nothing comes near it. It’s staggering in its epic scope. And it has made this impression on me who has played so many games over several years and I am sort of desensitized, have built up high expectations for game quality for me to be impressed

GoW3 is now a distant 3rd best game of all time for me because it was previously the best “epic” game in the fantasy genre. Bloodborne is my 2nd best game of all time, it’s not “epic” but no game can match the atmosphere created by its audio visual elements

FF16 is a towering achievement in gaming 🙇

I stopped after Bahamut again.  Very hard for any game to topple this in terms of scale, action and set piece.

Boss fights in this game are pinnacle of gaming.

Completed FF16 🥹

It’s definitely my game of the PS5/XSX generation (even best among PS4 games except Bloodborne perhaps)

It redefines what an “epic game” is supposed to be and sets a very high bar which will be near impossible for others to reach

FF16 is the crown jewel of the best that PS gaming has to offer 🫡 🙌

Competed the game today. Finished the main quest, side quests, all the monster hunts and even completed that Clive’s display setup. Took me around 68 hours.

The story/plot and setting gets full marks - 10/10.  Perhaps the best story I’ve seen in a video game so far.  It’s rich enough to be an actual novel.

Gameplay and the world itself is pretty dull though.  The gameplay and the rpg progression system is way too simple, especially the whole equipment upgrade /crafting system is pretty basic.  You get all these rewards for defeating monsters and all these side quests, but aside from buying some music I found there’s little to no use for Gil and most resources were unused.  I got the best weapon and gear crafted and still had a ton of resources left. The level progression is pretty basic as well with points unlocking different moves for each eikon and some upgrades but that’s it.  I had quite a lot of unused points left towards the end as well. Overall I felt it’s mostly an action game and not really an rpg.

I found gameplay to be mostly just executing one eikon ability after another and you don’t control any of your party members and they keep adding/dropping out based on the quest progression.  The world is mostly like a wall paper in the background for Clive to run thru his quests and most npcs have no ai in them whatsoever.

i felt the devs used all their budget to craft a beautiful world and story and added the gameplay with whatever was left.  Ff7 is leagues ahead overall as a “game” but if I want to just experience the story/world/lore with basic gameplay then this is like the best game I’ve played !!

This game keeps on giving. In the last leg now

About Combat. Pretty straightforward combat. There is not much depth here and you are just using the abilities one by one and dodging.

But every time you get into a fight, it feels so amazing to play don't know why :P The simplistic nature of the combat just works like a dream here.

I did the Kings commander fight in Kanver and oh boy it was so so good man. Busy, chaotic and mad fun.
