This match was a disgrace. You cannot count this as a international cricket match and count it among the records created by top nations. Mongolians bowled 70 to 80% full tosses at speeds that looked pedestrian. Pick any amateur club cricket team from any part of India and they will smack the sh*t out of this team. That is how bad and horrible they were. If ICC is letting this record stand then lets have a 5 match series with Mongolia after world cup :D

This was I think one of their very first international cricket matches. You really should not be so critical. I hope they improve with time and come on to the international stage properly. We really need far more new teams in International Cricket or the sport will lack excitement - and might even die later down the line. Right now, even teams who were very good once upon a time have pretty much left the sport or are nowhere to be seen. West Indies - one time champions - did not qualify for the World Cup. Old teams who regularly came to the World Cup like Kenya, Zimbabwe etc. are pretty much dead. Even major teams like Sri Lanka, Pakistan etc. are slowly fading away it seems.

As far as performance is concerned - it's not their sport, they're just starting so we can't really argue. If we argue in this - they might just start comparing how China does vs India in Olympics. We are exactly like Mongolia in that category.

Not critical of them but of ICC for putting them out there in wrong level. It was a complete mismatch of skills. Kudos to Mongolia for actually fielding a side with most of the native people in team instead of expat Indians and Pakistanis. But they need to play teams of their level and grow gradually. Playing against top tier teams will just demotivate them out of existence.

Woah!! Empty stadium for the World cup opener, speaks volumes about the downfall of the ODI format in recent times. So sad to see the last WC finalist starting the World cup campaign in front of empty stands. I am sure it will fill up a bit as the day progress (Thursday being a working day) but would have been good to see a sizeable crowd right from start.

It's high time ICC puts a lid on this format, taking out 8+ hours a day to just watch it on TV is painful obviously it is much tougher to go watch it in stadium with limited amenities and scorching heat.

Well, atleast it is not raining.

Oh if it was India playing everyone would have showed up, we should support first ever individually hosted world cup. Hopefully it fills up as you said.

Should have had the tournament opener on a weekend. This is pisspoor planning.

Absolutely, starting a WC on Thursday

That said overall interest in the WC is also very low, it has hardly been advertised and few in my office did not even know that world cup is starting today.
