I really don't understand the reviews and scores. I tried BOTW once (gave it like 10+ hours) but found it boring. The open world was really bland and the combat is also sub-par. Seeing the same kind of reviews for a sequel which largely looks the same albeit expanded makes me wonder, am I out of touch or what?

I think it's because many of us are so used to games holding our hands and dictating how we have fun that we have forgotten how to have fun on our own.

The kind of player freedom that these games offer can take a while to get used to. They give you a set of amazing tools and systems and let you loose in their sandbox. The sense of discovery and exploration that comes with it is incredible.

It took a while for the gameplay loop to click for me as well. But once it did, it set a whole new benchmark for what open-world games need to be. This and Elden Ring really put most western developed open-world games to shame.

All that said, TotK is much denser and a lot more fun than BotW. Would suggest giving it a fair shot over BotW.

Wut?

That's the reality of it.

Check this review, he isn't even discussing the game, it's good or bad design choices. Just praising it to high heavens.

If this were in hindi, all you would hear is

Bahut badhia hai...

Bahut achha hai ...

.

.

.

Repeat ad nauseum.

It really deserves all the high praise, man.

It's an incredible f**king game!

I can see that. Some videos I have seen paint a pretty good picture.

But reviews are pointless. It's not a flawless game by any means. It has issues that game developers had solved in early 2000s.

Any game I play and enjoy, I acknowledge the flaws first. It's totally fine, Elden Ring is my favourite game and it has flaws. Nothing wrong with that. What matters is if you enjoyed it or not.

No game is flawless. And I'm sure Elden Ring too has reviews where they don't go into its issues at all.

It's probably because the reviewers felt the minor flaws these games have are negligible in the grand scheme of things. That's why we have so many different reviews to check and base our opinions on. It's pointless fixating on any particular one.

Not sure which issues you're referring to here. But let me tell you, this is a game that most game developers in 2023 can't even dream of making.

I am basically talking about reviews here, not the game. This is the type of reviews I like to see. He likes it a lot too, and acknowledge all flaws.

I have previously been puzzled by high review scores after playing the game myself. Not saying it's gonna happen here.

But you haven’t played Botw, right?

So whatever flaws you see in it, keep it to yourself and stop crapping on game threads about review scores.
It looks like your sole intention is to prove Nintendo games don’t deserve the praise they’re getting.

Well, stop quoting me then.

All the posts I made in this thread are clarifying what I said in that first post. :giggle:

Reviewers do have a very casual attitude towards Nintendo games and I posted that GameSpot review.

Simple as that. You just want to read praise for the game here, ask people who are playing it. Or play yourself and post maybe. Thread is dead for a supposedly major release.

Man PC gaming is amazing. I was able to setup both BOTW and TOTK on Yuzu switch emulator (Disclaimer: I own a NSW and the games). It looks so clean with 2x upscaling to 1440p! Now I'm wondering If I should directly jump into TOTK or first complete BOTW. The only issue is time 'cause I know both are massive games and the hype is kinda pulling me to play TOTK directly. Recommendations?

Ignore BOTW and play TOTK. Just make sure to watch a recap of the story of BOTW on Youtube.

He’d never go back to BoTW if he plays ToTK first.

I would recommend giving BoTW a shot. It is still an insanely good game

If will be too much. Neither are short games. From what I have played of TOTK, there is nothing that BOTW does better. At this stage, if he hasn't played BOTW yet, might as well jump to TOTK directly. Anyway, it is my opinion. If you have time for both, go for it.
